The Africa Cup of Nations 2021 (AFCON 2021) will begin today 9th of January, 2022 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria playing their first group game against Egypt on Tuesday.
Nigeria is in the same group as Egypt alongside Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.
Egypt is the most successful team in the competition with seven trophies and is also one of the favourites to win the competition in Cameroon. The Arab country has their possession one of the best players in world football presently in the person on Mohamed Salah.
Nigeria needs to be on top of their game if they want to get a result against the Pharaohs of Egypt and to do so the Super Eagles interim manager Austin Eguavoen needs to start these three players.
1 Chidera Ejuke
Super Eagles rarely create chances from the middle as they result in the wings to create enough chances for the strikers, for Eguavoen to achieve this against Egypt he needs to start the CSKA Moscow winger.
The Nigerian winger is known for his dribbling ability and creating chances out of tight spaces a feature that he needed against the Pharaohs.
2 Jamilu Collins
The most dangerous player in the Egypt squad is Mohamed Salah and for Super Eagles to stop the Pharaohs from making use of the right-wing which is Liverpool’s forward position, Eguavoen needs a left-back that can defend well.
Collins is the better option for the job as he is good defensively compared to Zaidu Sanusi who is attacking minded.
3 Samuel Chukwueze
Just like Chidera Ejuke, Chukwueze would be the perfect option in the right-wing position for the team to put more pressure on the Egyptian defensive set-up. Eguavoen having two wingers that are tormenting the Pharaoh’s defence will keep their fullbacks in their half.
Even with the absence of some top players in the Super Eagles squad for the competition, Eguavoen can get a result against Egypt if he gets his formation and tactics right.
